Coalition4Justice YouthBuild Social Justice Program (YBSJP), created by Dr. Bernadine Ahonkhai, is an innovative and transformative 9-week community-based service leadership and education initiative designed to equip youth (ages 11–18) with the tools to tackle racism, prejudice, and exclusion in their schools and communities. Rooted in the Social Justice Standards developed by the Southern Poverty Law Center, the YBSJP curriculum is built on four core thematic anchors: Identity, Diversity, Justice, and Action. Identity Anchor addresses who the students and their peers are (their Unique Personal, Social Identities), while the Diversity Anchor focuses on differences and similarities. The Justice Anchor addresses racial inequities and social injustice in their world, empowers, and equips students with leadership and communication skills to be impactful change agents. The Action Anchor focuses on elections, addressing voter suppression, promoting voter readiness and registration, and empowering youth to engage in democracy through civic engagement and voting.

Coalition4Justice successfully launched the first year of the YouthBuild Diversity Ambassador Program (DAP), engaging 85 students across Montgomery County through schools and community programs. This eight-week initiative, led by Dr. Bernadine Ahonkhai, provided a safe space for youth to explore identity, diversity, and social justice while building leadership and advocacy skills. Students shared personal stories, tackled issues like bullying and microaggressions, and developed empathy and respect for others. With 96% of participants rating the program as excellent or good, the DAP has proven to be a transformative experience, preparing students to be champions of equity and inclusion in their schools and communities.
