THE GOOD FIGHT CONTINUES

Dr. Bernadine Ahonkhai

Coalition for Racial Equity and Social Justice is committed to make good trouble by intentionally creating awareness, informing, and educating the public about racial inequity and social justice with the goal of changing attitudes, behaviors, policies, and laws. We at Coalition4Justice believe that equity, inclusion, and justice are not just social goals, but a fundamental principle of how we build stronger communities and our collective democracy  We refuse to accept any attempt to silence communities of color, erasing Black and ethnic history from school curriculum and libraries, creating barriers to voting in majority Black neighborhoods, politicizing our educational institutions.

At Coalition4Justice, we believe that by understanding our hard history in relation to our current landscape of hate and extremism in our country, we will be able to prevent anti-democracy groups from putting a wedge between communities and dividing us from one another. Our nation’s diversity is our strength. We must understand that an attack on one group of American, is an attack on all of us. We must start to work towards building a multicultural, inclusive democracy that we all deserve.

In a few days, Americans will go to the polls. Our votes have the power to transform history. Be sure to exercise your fundamental rights in the 2024 election. But there are also other ways that one can participate in elections, besides voting, which is the most effecting way to participate. Below are ways that you can exercise your power during the 2024 election cycle:

  • Volunteering as a Poll worker to assist voters, provide information, manage lines on election day.

  • Volunteer as a poll watcher by observing and reporting concerns, and/or illegal activities to election officials and law enforcement.

  • Help spread important voting information to increase voter turnout. Also educate voters on their rights and provide materials in multiple languages.

  • Organize voter registration drive.

  • Volunteer to transport people to the poll stations.

Working to transform the landscape and building systems that embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice is never easy. But it is work the fight to dismantle racial disparity and racism and leads to inclusion and a better, safer, and more just world.
