About the event
TAMI DECOTEAU, Ph.D., obtained a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology in 2003 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is trained in various trauma treatment modalities and has extensive experience working with patients who suffer from complex trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders, grief, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thinking.
In this program, Dr. DeCoteau will discuss how trauma impacts the brain and the body. The science of historical trauma from both a psychological and epigenetic (changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression) perspective will be covered. Participants will learn how to identify trauma related behaviors, as well as practical strategies (modern and traditional Native approaches) for supporting individuals who suffer from trauma disorders.
Dr. DeCoteau has worked in a variety of outpatient settings and with a diverse patient population, including Veterans and Native Americans. She has expertise in the development of in-school strategies for working with traumatized children. In 2009, Dr. DeCoteau…
